THE LIT MAG
Published every year at Dunbar, the magazine contains student work. Previous issues have contained excerpts from novels students are working on, original poetry and verse, photography, drawings, and scans of paintings. These issues, along with copies of the current issue, are available for purchase. Currently sold during lunch and upon request, all purchases help fund the current issue. The Lit Mag presents an awesome opportunity for students to see their work in print as a collection with their peers' work.
INCRIMINATING INK.
Happily named eleven years ago, Incriminating Ink. is the student literary magazine produced by Dunbar students in Mr. Egan's Creative Writing II & III classes. These students contribute to, edit, and promote that year's issue. Additional submissions are compiled exclusively from other students' works. Selections are made, then pieces are edited as needed and finally published in a bound volume readily available for purchase. Show your support for this unique artistic expression by purchasing a copy of current or previous issues and by submitting a piece of your own... We look forward to reading your piece!
CREATIVE WRITING
Taken as elective courses in your Sophomore, Junior, and/or Senior year, this class spends significant time in and out of class working on refining writing technique and ability. This is a great opportunity to practice your written expression in a fun and engaging way. Creative Writing I gives students the chance to respond to prompts of all kinds, while they construct their own self-generated stories, poems, etc.
While very similar, Creative Writing II & III spends time devoted to continued practice in creative writing, in addition to working on the current issue of the student Lit Mag during second semester. Students are required to promote the sale of the magazine and encourage peers to submit pieces for consideration. The class then reviews and chooses which pieces will be published. During this process, they are required to submit their own pieces for review.
If you are an interested and aspiring writer, you need to take Creative Writing I first (a year-long elective). If you have additional questions or concerns, contact the Creative Writing II & III teacher, Mr. Egan, or Mrs. Wilkinson, the Creative Writing I teacher.
